Chadema Wamlima Barua JK

Inaccuracies and misplaced towns and cities in Apple's new map software have provoked anger from users.
In June Apple announced it would stop using Google Maps in favour of its own system, created using data from navigation specialist TomTom.

Apple is yet to comment on the complaints about the software, which comes already installed on the new iPhone. TomTom said it provided only data and was not responsible for how it worked. The software is packaged with iOS6, the latest version of Apple's operating system, which runs on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

Previously, the system had an app running mapping software from Google. But users are now forced to use Apple's new maps once they upgrade or buy the latest iPhone - which goes on sale on Friday. There is not currently a Google Maps app available in Apple's App Store, although Google's system is still accessible via the phone's web browser.
Demonstrators who gathered outside the US embassy in Islamabad to protest against an amateur video mocking Islam have begun to disperse peacefully. The Pakistani authorities had earlier called on the army as police struggled to contain the crowd of thousands with tear gas and live rounds.
Some protesters had said they would not leave the diplomatic enclave until the US embassy was on fire.
Protests over the film, Innocence of Muslims, have claimed several lives. It was made in the US and is said to insult the Prophet Muhammad.

Streets leading to the enclave, where most of the embassies are housed, were earlier blocked off by shipping containers in an effort to increase security. 'Out like a light' Television pictures showed chaotic scenes as police tried to gain control of the situation.

Protesters burned an effigy of US President Barack Obama and threw missiles at the police. One  demonstrator told reporters: "The infidel who produced the movie should be hanged, or hand over him to the Muslims. And we don't want any (US) diplomat or embassy in Pakistan: all relations should be cut off."
The BBC's Aleem Maqbool in Islamabad, who did not see any evidence of the army at the scene, said the protest was "turned out like a light".

He said it was amazing, given the strength of feeling at the the protest earlier, that the crowd left as peacefully as it did. He says the area is still shrouded in tear gas.

A demonstration in the same area on Wednesday saw around 500 protesters gather outside the gates of the enclave.

The US State Department earlier issued a warning against any non-essential travel to Pakistan.
It also "strongly urged" US citizens in Pakistan to avoid protests and large gatherings. Anti-US sentiment has been growing since people became aware of the amateur film earlier this month.
The US Ambassador to Libya was killed in an attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, on 11 September.
Protests in countries around the world then took place.
Tensions with the West have been further inflamed by the publication by a French magazine of obscene cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad on Wednesday.
The Pakistani government has called a national holiday on Friday to enable people to demonstrate peacefully.

Lebanese are protesting in Beirut against the use of anal examinations on men suspected of homosexuality and “virginity tests" for women. Same sex relations in the Arab country are considered a crime and punishable by up to one year in jail.

Lebanese demonstrators gathered outside the law courts in the capital holding banners that read "United to abolish the tests of shame".

Lebanon-based HELEM, considered the Arab world's first and leading lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights group, called for the rally under the slogan: "Stand up against the tests of shame, vaginal or anal."
One sign read: "The cost of forensic rape: 125,000 Lebanese lira" (about $85), pointing out that the men subjected to the anal probes were being charged for the procedure, AFP reports.

“This test is completely stupid, but mostly it is a rape, and it has psychological consequences for the victims,”
Protesters, supported by human rights organizations, are demanding that Lebanon’s Justice Ministry issues a directive ordering an end to the tests.  The demonstration follows the arrest of 36 men during the July 28 raid on a movie theater suspected of screening pornographic movies in the Burj Hammoud district of Beirut. The men detained were transferred to a police station, where they were subjected to anal examination, which is intended to prove whether a person engaged in homosexual sex.

All men were later released several days later, but three of them got homosexuality-related charges under article 534 of the Lebanese Penal Code on the basis of the examinations.

The article, which sparked mass outrage, considers sexual relations "contradicting the laws of nature" illegal and violators may be punished by up to one year in prison.

The Helem members say that Article 534 is used by the Lebanese ruling classes to criminalize homosexuality.
The raid sparked fierce criticism from physicians, politicians and human rights groups. The latter insist the government should take steps to repeal the article of the Lebanese penal code.

As an argument, human rights groups say the test violates international standards against torture, including the Convention Against Torture and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which Lebanon ratified in 2000.

Activists say the tests are also carried out in violation of professional medical principles, including those of the World Medical Association and resolutions adopted by the UN.

On Tuesday, Lebanon's Order of Physicians issued its own letter, telling doctors they will face disciplinary measures if they carry out the exams.

Two strong quakes have shaken Iran's northwest, leaving 227 people dead and 1,380 injured, the Interior Ministry reported. The quakes have also disrupted communications, complicating rescue efforts. The quakes, measuring 6.4 and 6.3 on the Richter scale, struck within 11 minutes of each other near the towns of Tabriz and Ahar in East Azerbaijan province on Saturday. About half of the villages located in the disaster zone have been damaged and some have been destroyed completely, Interior Minister Moustafa Mohammad-Najjar told local television.

Iran's main news channel said the first tremor hit the towns of Ahar, Haris and Varzaqan in East Azerbaijan province at 4:53pm local time (12:23 GMT ). The search for surviving victims in the area is over, with national services and aid organizations switching their focus on relief effort. "There are no people left to recover from under the rubble in any village, and all necessary aid is currently being distributed," an interior ministry official in charge of disaster management, Hossein Ghadami, told state television.

About 700 of the people injured by the disaster have been rushed to hospitals in the first hours of the rescue operation.

A spokesman for Tabriz's fire department told the ISNA news agency that "most parts of Tabriz have no electricity… and there is a heavy traffic jam in the city." Hundreds of people were rescued from under the collapsed buildings, but emergency efforts have been hampered by nightfall.

The affected area has been shaken by 35 aftershocks in the hours after the quakes struck, according to FARS. Officials have asked people to stay outdoors overnight. The tremors were felt in neighboring Azerbaijan, according to the local Seismology Institute, but no casualties have been reported.

Iran is generally susceptible to earthquakes, being situated on seismic fault lines. Tremors hit the country every day, but the majority of them are so insignificant that they go unnoticed.

The deadliest was a 6.6-magnitude quake which struck the southern city of Bam in December 2003, killing 31,000 people – about a quarter of the population – and destroying the city's ancient mud-built citadel.

A group of athletes from the Cameroons have fled the London 2012 Olympic Village, with alleged plans of finding better living in Europe. "What began as rumor has finally turned out to be true," David Ojong, head of Cameroon’s delegation at the Games, told Reuters. "Seven Cameroonian athletes who participated at the 2012 London Olympic Games have disappeared from the Olympic Village."

According to the official, the women's football goalie, Drusille Ngako, was the first to leave while her teammates were in Coventry for their last training encounter against New Zealand. Than there was swimmer, Paul Ekane Edingue, and five members of the boxing team, who followed her example.

Ojong says Thomas Essomba, Christian Donfack Adjoufack, Abdon Mewoli, Blaise Yepmou Mendouo and Serge Ambomo, disappeared from the Olympic village on Sunday. In all, 37 athletes came to London as part of Cameroon’s Olympic delegation.
Some people will try to dupe Facebook users for reasons of their own, from having a bit of fun, to duping for its own sake, right through to grooming people online or seeking to behave fraudulently. For your own sake, knowing how to spot a fake Facebook account is an important part of keeping safe online and remaining distant from people you don't know.

Know why it is important to spot a fake account
If you're wondering what can happen to you from having a fake friend on Facebook, there are quite a few things that can cause you distress and loss from being involved with a con artist (which a Facebook faker usually is). For example, you could be manipulated into believing someone really cares about you when all they want is to play mind games for their own satisfaction or to get money, goods, property, or something else from you. The impostor might also be setting you up to steal your identity or valuable information from you that they can use to manipulate someone else.

Think twice about accepting friend requests from people you don't know or who haven't been connected to you through legitimate, verifiable means.

If you're not sure, consider the following:
  • Ask them questions: What makes you want to be my friend? How did you find out about me? Who do we know in common (you can then check)?
  • Look at their profile photo. Is it way too perfect or does it seem touched up in any way? Maybe you've seen it before?
  • Search their name online to see if it returns. This won't be so useful if the name is a common one but for a more unusual one, there might be some interesting returns.
  • Have they being tagged? A real person is generally tagged here and there as part of the Facebook sharing experience.
  • Use Google Image Search to look up the person's profile picture. Often, it is a generic photo taken from the internet.
Read the profile carefully.
Does what is being said add up or are there some really hard-to-believe statements being made? For example, maybe there is a photo of a very young person next to claims of being a professor or a CEO. Does the embellishment seem more than the usual "making oneself look good" and come across as simply implausible? Trust your own senses on this one. You could even ask for proofs of some of the things the person has stated.

Check out their friends
Are their friends global or local? The more local the friends, the more likely the person is to be real. The more global their friendship list, with very few or no local friends, start getting suspicious. The lack of local friends suggests that this is not a real persona you're dealing with but a fake account.

Be alert to anyone new that you've friended but don't really know
If you're in the (not-so-great) habit of accepting friend requests from friends of friends' friends or because they seem to have similar tastes to yours in music, cooking, dancing, or whatever, then you leave yourself open to the occasional fake. While you can make wonderful connections in this way, try to always have someone you do know vouch for this person first. And if that's not possible, be alert to signs of weird behavior, such as suddenly bombarding you with likes, comments, photos, etc. on a daily basis. If you hardly know this person, they should be taking things slowly and politely, not invading your space immediately.

Beware interconnected faking
At one time it was probably reasonable to think that if someone had a group of friends interacting with them and vouching for each other, that that person must be real. However, there are increasing cases of one person running numerous fake Facebook accounts, pretending to be an array of different people, all vouching for one another and all trying to be friends with someone real! For example, the case of Natalia Burgess who wove a web of deceit and caused many young males to fall for her various aliases, all because she felt inadequately loved. Sadly, impostors of this sort go to incredible lengths to create an array of fake accounts including other social media accounts and websites to give the impression that their fake personas are "real".

Look for and record inconsistencies in the things they say to you
If you're being targeted by an elaborate web of lies, eventually these start to unravel. This is most evident in someone who is trying to maintain several fake Facebook accounts at once and eventually, they will drop the ball and mix up their stories. If you start noticing this in response to questions, or in their comments, take note and remain alert for more inconsistencies.

Do a double take if the person says anything weird or "out-of-character"
For example, if an adult is pretending to be a teen, they may say something that dates them by referring to an historic event or person that teens wouldn't really know much about. Or they may prove to know way too much about a topic that someone they're claiming to be would not.

Be really wary of undying declarations of love, affection, and romance
If someone you've never met, who lives thousands of miles away from you, and who has barely revealed themselves gets amorous with you, be suspicious. Sometimes the faker does this because they love the feeling of playing with the life and feelings of someone else; sometimes it's because they're in love with online love but are too afraid to reveal their true selves (or they're in a relationship in real life); and other times it could be that they're after something, like money, sex, or drugs.
  • Question your own feelings and motivations if you start to feel something for a person who declares they love you online. Is it too sudden? Too weird? Too freaky? A little bit icky? Trust those feelings and delete this fake friend from your account.
  • If they ask you for sexy pictures, immediately be suspicious. A fake account is a good shill for getting free pornographic material that then gets passed around online.
Unfriend this person if you're suspicious, unsure, or uncomfortable with having them as part of your Facebook friends.
It's not like they're your real friends or family but they could cause you a lot of problems if they keep pretending to be someone they're not to a point where it harms you. Warn other friends of yours on Facebook if you know they have also friended the fake account; one of the tactics of an impostor is to befriend others in your circle of friends to try and make the friendship seem more "real".

IMPORTANT FOR YOU

In 2006, co-workers Thomas Montgomery and Brian Barrett became so entangled in an online love triangle with a young woman who identified herself as "talhotblond" that Thomas eventually murdered Barrett at their office. Neither man realized that they were fighting over an overweight, middle-aged, stay-at-home mom.
So before falling hard for an online-only acquaintance, here are a few tips, gleaned from "Catfish," to help you detect fraudulent profiles on social networking and dating sites.

1. The perfect person is not a real person. A supermodel or retouched profile photo should raise the first red flag.

2. Be wary if the profile describes a personality that complements your own or is too good to be true. Often, imposters will create interests and activities that mirror your own in order to start a conversation.

3. Check how many friends and followers are listed in the person's network. The average Facebook user has 130 friends. An imposter will often have significantly fewer.

4. Determine whether any of your "mutual friends" have actually met your newest online acquaintance in person.

5. Use search engines to do a quick background check on the name and basic information used in a profile. If the profile claims the person attended Oxford, currently works as a CEO at an international company or runs marathons, you should be able to find mentions of these achievements on alumni, company or running sites, respectively. Schulman admitted that Googling Megan earlier in their relationship could have saved him a great deal of embarrassment and heartbreak.

6. Peruse posted pictures and albums carefully. A real person will often have pictures with friends and family, who will have tagged and commented on photos. By contrast, imposters will often use modeling photos featuring only glamorous shots of the individual rather than group photos.

7. Don't be tricked if your friend has multiple people who vouch for him or her online. One person can easily make multiple accounts to make it appear as if there is a support network of family and friends.

8. Imposters will often try to interact with your own friends and family members to create a broader sense of familiarity and build up a broader network of trust.

9. Finally, if you've been harmed by someone who posted a fake profile, report it to site monitors and authorities. Although it may be humiliating to be duped online, authorities will be able to identify imposters and close their accounts more quickly than you working independently.

“Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction” (1 Timothy 6:9).

The greatest thing satan aims at in tempting good people is to overthrow their position as children of God. One of the satanic strategies is to get you to doubt God’s goodness. Satan tries to get you to forget all God has given you and wants you to focus on what you do not have because when you are spending much of your time thinking about what you do not have, you may find yourself slipping into unhealthy doubt.

Doubt comes when we fail to remember what the Lord has done for us and concentrate on what we do not have. “Lord, give me this, give me that…” but what about those things God has already given you?

We are mere instruments in the hands of God and when we see ourselves clearly in the light of God’s Word, we will realize that we do not deserve anything and will therefore be grateful for anything we receive from Him.

God knows our needs and heart’s desires. God’s time is the best. Be patient and let God answer your questions on His schedule not yours.

Have you realized this??? Follow it for sure it will help you!

Lady Gaga (AFP Photo / Andrew Yates)
Poker Face songstress Lady Gaga is no stranger to scandals. This time around, a toy company is suing the eccentric star for over $10 million, claiming she has sabotaged a deal to create a doll that would play bits of her music hits.

According to the creator of the Bratz doll line, MGA Entertainment, the toy maker paid a $1 million advance to the company that handles Gaga's merchandizing. The dolls were supposed to reflect Gaga's signature style – her famous “meat dress”, for one, making even the boldest fashionistas raise an eyebrow.

Things went wrong when the singer's merchandiser decided to abolish the key part of the deal, allowing the dolls to use the singer's music. Gaga's representatives finally withdrew from the multimillion-dollar project, reportedly jeopardizing up to $30 million in expected revenue from the upcoming shopping season, and holding up orders from at least 10 countries.

A representative for Lady Gaga called the lawsuit "ill-conceived", saying there was "no legitimate reason" to drag the singer into a dispute between the two companies.
A group of Russia's most daring ladies have overcome months of grueling training to prove that the sky is not the limit, and set a new world record in formation skydiving.
This was the task for 88 Russian women in Moscow Region's Kolomna airfield to descend hand-in-hand at a height of 20,000 feet to set a new mark.
Parachute gurus say that this attempt takes teamwork to another level, both for professional jumpers and enthusiasts – free-falling while holding hands leaves no margin for error, as success depends on each and every member of the team.
But it was not all plain sailing right from the start. The first two attempts at the record saw the girls fall short.
However, thousands of fans from all over the country kept their faith alive and were well-rewarded for their patience.

Kentucky teen faces jail time after exposing sexual assailants on Twitter
Kentucky teen faces jail time after exposing sexual assailants on Twitter
A 17-year old Kentucky girl is facing up to 180 days in jail for tweeting the names of two teenagers who sexually assaulted her.
Savannah Dietrich, a Louisville resident, said she was frustrated by what she considered a lenient plea bargain for the boys, who had pleaded guilty to assaulting her and distributing photos of the episode.
Dietrich was sexually assaulted by acquaintances after falling unconscious after drinking one night in 2011. Growing worried that people she knew had seen the photos, she became too embarrassed to go out in public.
“For months, I cried myself to sleep. I couldn’t go out in public places,” she told the Courier-Journal, Louisville’s main newspaper. “You just sit there and wonder, who saw [the pictures], who knows?”
The teenage boys pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual abuse and misdemeanor voyeurism. While their sentencing is due next month, there is a plea agreement that Dietrich considers nothing more than a slap on the wrist.
“I felt like they were given a very, very light deal,” she said. “I wasn’t happy with it, at all.”
She took her frustration to Twitter and now, she faces contempt charges for violating the confidentiality of minors in court. But although she faces up to 180 days in jail and a $500 fine for publicizing their names, she refuses to be silenced.
“There you go, lock me up,” she wrote on Twitter after naming her assaulters. “I’m not protecting anyone that made my life a living hell.”
The girl is turning to the media regarding her case. While some legal experts claim Dietrich should have the right to talk about what happened to her, others say she should not have violated the court’s order of confidentially.
Jo Ann Phillips of the Kentuckians Voice for Crime Victims says that although Dietrich stood up for what she believed was right, she should have taken a different approach.
“She should have gone to a victims’ group or her local legislator and fought for her right to speak out,” Phillips said.
But Dietrich continues to speak publicly about her case, hoping the media attention will give her the justice she hopes for.
“If they really feel it’s necessary to throw me in jail for talking about what happened to me … as opposed to throwing these boys in jail for what they did to me, then I don’t understand justice,” she said.
The Government has refuted claims that the current decline in education quality is fueled by failure or poor inspection in both primary and secondary schools in the country.

Deputy Minister for Education and Vocation Training Phillipo Mulugo said this when responding to a supplementary question asked by Ngara legislator (CCM), Deogratias Ntukamazina.

In his question the MP had claimed that decline in education quality in the country was attributed by the government to failure to support school inspectors to perform their duties.
“Weakening of education quality in the country has been fueled by teachers, students and parents’ dishonesty,” he said.

The minister accused head teachers and school masters of colluding with parents in exchange for bribes to register students who failed in their primary school final examinations.

The minister also attributed the limited budget allocated by the government to undertake school inspection as a challenge.
He said the current budget for school inspection to be fully conducted runs up to 13.6bn/- and that the government was making efforts to obtain the needed amount.
“Each fiscal year, the government allocates a budget for school inspection but it’s clear that the amount does cover the demand,” he said.

The minister added that currently there are 1601primary schools and 4367 secondary schools and that the government is planning to introduce an executive agency that will undertake inspection exercise of schools all over the country.

Meanwhile the minister Dr Shukuru Kawambwa has pledged to ensure sufficient teaching equipment in schools to promote quality education in the country.

Dr Kawambwa told the House that the government plans to re-grade students enrolled into teaching colleges to less than the 27 points of a division four graduate.

“We don’t want failures to teach our students. We want the more successful students to join teachers colleges,” he said.

Monsignor William Lynn was found guilty last month of one count of child endangerment [Reuters]

The highest-ranking US church official to be convicted of covering up child sex allegations, Monsignor William Lynn, has been sentenced to three to six years in prison.

Lynn, whose job it was to investigate reports of abuse in the archdiocese from 1992 to 2004, was found guilty last month of one count of child endangerment.

Defence lawyers had pushed for Lynn to be spared prison, but Judge Teresa Sarmina on Tuesday imposed close to the maximum sentence of between three-and-a-half and seven years.

"It was three to six years," an official at the court in Philadelphia told AFP news agency by telephone, confirming the tough sentence.

Lynn, 61, who took the witness stand for three days during his 10-week trial, was not charged with molesting children, but rather with covering up the crimes of priests who did.

He argued that he may have been out of his depth, but had never acted criminally.

Victims' groups hailed the verdict as a major step forward as a court had acknowledged that someone in Lynn's position had endangered a child.

The trial, the first in the US involving such a senior official in the Catholic Church, also centered on two more Philadelphia priests.

Reverend James Brennan, who was suspended from his duties as a priest, stood accused of attempting to rape a teenaged boy in the 1990s. The jury was hung over the charges dealing with Brennan, who will not face a new trial.

Defrocked priest Edward Avery pleaded guilty on the eve of trial. Avery was sentenced to between 2.5 and five years in prison.

During the trial the court heard graphic testimony describing sexual abuse in the Philadelphia archdiocese.

'Constant deceit'

Lynn was found not guilty of endangering Brennan's accuser and not guilty of conspiring to endanger that accuser. He was found guilty of endangering Avery's victim, but not guilty of conspiracy with regard to that victim.

"The Lynn trial is of lasting significance because of its guilty verdict"

Lynn's lawyer described him as a low level functionary who struggled within a rigid church hierarchy to act against abuse by documenting it and compiling the voluminous records that prosecutors used to build their case.

The defence said a prison sentence was unfair and that Lynn should not be punished in the same way as Avery, who had actually committed sexual abuse.

Prosecutors portrayed Lynn as a keeper of the secrets who was obliged to compile the records and thought they would never see the light of day.

Prosecutors allege that in failing to remove abusive priests from positions where they had contact with minors, Lynn put children in danger.

Prosecutors wrote in their pre-sentencing memo that Lynn showed "constant deceit" and "a striving to please his bosses no matter how sinister the business".

Shockwaves from the trial are expected to keep reverberating.

"The Lynn trial is of lasting significance because of its guilty verdict, and because the record of the trial contains a dramatic analysis for a single archdiocese of the two crimes that constitute the ongoing sex abuse crisis: a) the sexual abuse of children by priests and b) the enabling and cover-up of the abuse," wrote bishop-accountability.org, which tracks reported abuses.
